Dragonlance

 

Dragonlance is a fantasy series created by author Tracy Hickman. The first novel was published in 1984, entitled Dragons of the Autumn Night. It was the first book in the Chronicles trilogy (the other two books being Dragons of Winter Night and Dragons of Springs Dawning). The series since has published over 170 novels and has been quoted to have combined sales of 20 million books.

The Dragonlance series is set on the fictional planet of Krynn. The majority of the novels take place on the continent of Ansalon though some have taken place on the continent called Taladas. The Dragonlance story revolves around the Cataclysm, an event where a fiery mountain was launched from the heavens at a city called Istar. Recorded history reflects this using the following abbreviations:

• PC stands for Prae Cataclius (Pre-Cataclysm)
• AC stands for Alt Cataclius (After Cataclysm)
• SC stands for Secundus Cataclius (Second Cataclysm)

 

In addition to the original Chronicles Trilogy, there are other novels that are considered "core" books that are central to the Dragonlance story. If you were to only read a few of the almost 200 published books in the series, these would be them. They include the Legends trilogy (Time of the Twins, War of the Twins and Test of the Twins), The Lost Chronicles (Dragons of the Dwarven Depths and Dragons of the Highlord Skies) and The Second Generation (The Second Generation and Dragons of the Summer Flame).
