Shannara
The epic fantasy world of Shannara was created by the author Terry Brooks. The series began as a trilogy with the first book entitled The Sword of Shannara, published in 1977. It became a best seller and was the first novel from the fantasy genre to enter the New York Times Bestseller's list. The Elfstones of Shannara and The Wishsong of Shannara completed the Original Shannara Trilogy. Currently, there are over 21 million Shannara books in print.
Over the course of the series we learn that the events of Shannara take place in the future where the Great Wars create a Chemical and Nuclear holocaust resulting in the world reverting back to a medieval state where magic has taken the place of science. The series tells the stories of Jerle Shannara and his descendants, the Ohmsford family.
