People

Rather than duplicate the entire lives of people that could be easily found in encyclopedias, bigraphies and the internet, I'd rather illustrate the reasons these people are interesting to me and therefore, why they are on this site. My interest in someone may be as simple as their tangible contribution to culture (music, art, books or architecture) but more often than not what draws me to them is the intangible effect their actions had on shaping our history whether deliberate or not.

One thing that I have learned while studying theology at university was that cultures exist within their own historical context and not taking this into our understanding when reading history may obscure the significance within it's own time but also in the overall scheme of history. We also run the risk of misinterpretation and judgement. Therefore I have tried to provide any relevant historical context where necessary.

I am currently in the stages of putting together the content for the people pages. Below is a short list of the people I will document on this site. Links to the individual pages will come shortly.

Elizabeth I
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Blaise Pascal

About the Picture

With the largest shelf space in the world, the library of Congress in Washington D.C. immediately came to mind to represent the books section of this site. The three separate pictures show the impressive architectural details that surround this important library.
